    He was a former Arthur Murray dance instructor.
    He wrote a song with the odd title ‘Virgins Wrapped in Cellophane.’

    He was nominated for the Oscar for Best Song 16 times -- the third most, behind Sammy Cahn (23 nominations) and Johnny Mercer (18).
    He collaborated with Duke Ellington to write ‘Jump for Joy,’ an all-black musical featuring Ivie Anderson and Dorothy Dandridge (1941).
    He co-wrote the theme song for the ‘Spider-Man’ cartoon, giving the world the immortal lines, ‘Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can.’
