Why he might be annoying:

He left his wife and son.
His stories contain many bizarre characters and situations.
His writings inspired the god-awful Barbra Streisand vehicle ‘Yentl.'
He liked to blah-blah about how everyone should be vegetarian.
He said: ‘If there would come a voice from God saying, I'M AGAINST VEGETARIANISM, I would say, Well, I am for it!'

Why he might not be annoying:

He incorporated the name ‘Bashevis' as a tribute to his mother, Bathsheba (Bashevis means ‘Son of Bathsheba').
He escaped from Poland before Hitler invaded.
He worked to revive the Yiddish language after World War II.
He said that although many Jews were murdered during the war, ‘Something – call it spirit or whatever – is still in the universe.'
He wrote books for children as well as adults.
He won the Nobel Prize for literature.
Someone asked him if he converted to vegetarianism for health reasons, and he said: ‘I did it for the health of the chickens!'
