Actor

The Resume

    (May 24, 1857-August 30, 1907)
    Born in Berlin, Germany
Known for his roles in Shakespear's plays, Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, and the dual title roles in 'The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde'

Why he might be annoying:

He took up acting only after failing at making a living through painting.
His egotism and short temper made him unpopular with managers, producers and fellow actors.
He was arrested in New York City's Central Park for disturbing the peace after being stopped for violating park ordinances by riding a bicycle (1896).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first producer to turn a profit on a George Bernard Shaw play.
In a tribute of sorts to his acting talents, his transformation from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde was so intense that one frightened theater goer wrote to the police accusing him of being Jack the Ripper.
At his death, the New York Times declared, 'He was the greatest actor of his hour, and one of the greatest of all times.'
