Sports Executive
    (1949- )
    Raised in Illinois and Arkansas
Made his fortune with an investment fund group
    Bought the Florida Marlins (1998)
Sold the Florida Marlins to former Montreal Expos owner Jeffrey Loria (December 6, 2001)
Along with Tom Werner, he bought the Boston Red Sox (February 27, 2002) for $660 million
    He has greasy-looking skin.
He shares the same name with a race horse.
He vowed to build the Florida Marlins their own stadium but didn’t.
He said about building the Florida Marlins a stadium: 'Well, I’ll use my own funds if I must, but if I do there won't be any money left to sign players, so can't the taxpayers spare a few hundred million?’
He was involved in a three-way swap which ended with him selling the Marlins and buying the Red Sox, Jeffrey Loria selling the Expos and buying the Marlins and MLB buying the Expos.
He changed his view on the baseball salary cap issue after George Steinbrenner made the blockbuster deal that brought Alex Rodriguez to New York.
George Steinbrenner said of him: 'We understand that John Henry must be embarrassed, frustrated and disappointed by his failure in this transaction.'
His Red Sox have the second highest payroll in baseball, clocking in at $125 million. The Yankees, who are listed as being at $184.8 million, are $59.8 million above them. Had Boston traded Manny Ramirez for A-Rod, like they intended to, they would've clocked in at $130 million, not counting any money from Manny's contract they would've had to pay off. The Yankees, in turn, would've had a payroll of $160.6 million, which is only $30.6 more than Boston (but remember, he wants a salary cap).
    He wears cabana hats.
He is considered one of the few baseball team owners that actually likes the sport.
Under him, the Florida Marlins drafted many players who would, in years to come, win the World Series.
He has helped revive baseball in the New England area.
He hired Theo Epstein as the General Manager for the Red Sox, making him the youngest person to ever be appointed to that position.
