Murderer

The Resume

    (January 12, 1950-January 24, 1992)
    Born in Arkansas
Killed Arthur Criswell and wounded two people in a dispute at a Conway, Arkansas, nightclub (March 21, 1981)
Killed police officer Robert Martin three days later
Then attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head
    Survived and stood trial
Sentenced to death for the killing of Officer Martin (November 11, 1982)
    Executed by lethal injection

Why he might be annoying:

He shot three people over his friend being denied entry to a nightclub when the friend couldn't pony up the $3 cover charge.
After three days on the run, his sister convinced him to turn himself in, but he said he would surrender only to Officer Martin, whom he had known since childhood.
While Martin was speaking with Rector's mother and sister, Rector shot him twice, striking him in the jaw and neck.
Although there was debate about his mental competency during his trial, no one doubted he knew what he was doing when he actually committed the murders.
A clemency panel ruled that he was legally sane and was capable of understanding why he was being executed (January 16, 1992).

Why he might not be annoying:

In his suicide attempt, he basically performed a lobotomy by gunshot on himself, and dropped his IQ to the under 70 range.
He undermined the expert testimony that he understood what was happening during his last meal when he set aside a slice of pecan pie and asked the guards to save it for later.
During his execution, it took over 50 minutes to find a usable vein.
Many commentators said the main reason he was executed was that Governor Bill Clinton wanted to avoid 'soft on crime' accusations like the one that sank the Dukakis campaign.
