    ( -circa 7000 BC)
    Prehistoric North American skeleton
Discovered on the north bank of the Columbia River, close to Kennewick, Washington (July 28, 1996)
Legally owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers
Five native groups tried to block scientific study, requesting the remains be given a traditional reburial
The United States Court of Appeals ruled against a block, concluding a link between the remains and modern tribes had not been established (2004)
Skeleton kept at the Burke Museum (University of Washington)
His facial reconstruction strongly resembles Patrick Stewart.
He was found by accident by a couple of men attending a hydroplane race.
Many native groups were angered by initial reports that he had ‘caucasoid’ features.
When his remains were finally tested, the results with regard to his ancestry were inconclusive.
Several older and more scientifically valuable skeletons have since been discovered.
The Asutru Folk Assembly (a neopagan European religion) also sued for ownership of the bones.
His skeleton was found nearly complete.
He survived getting speared in the pelvis.
He died with all of his teeth.
Current findings suggest his ancestors may have been south Asian or Ainu.
His dissimilarity to current native Americans suggests the Americas were populated by several groups between 11 000-14 000 years ago.
The archaeological site where he was discovered has since been destroyed.
