Why he might be annoying:

He quit school to work on the farm after eighth-grade.
His brother Henry thought the relationship between Ed and their mom was 'unwholesome.' Henry died under suspicious circumstances in a brush fire.
His mom died after some strokes, but he blamed her death on the degeneracy of the citizens of Plainfield, whom his mom constantly complained about.
At age 40, he was alone for the first time in his life (December 29, 1945).
He sealed his mother's room and started his rampage.
The Plainfield area experienced many unexplained disappearances (1946-57).
He dated Mary Hogan and Bernice Worden, both resembling his mother, who were later killed by a rifle shot.
Under police questioning, he blurted, 'Somebody framed me for Mrs. Worden,' even though her name was never mentioned (November 17, 1957).
Investigators searching his house found Worden's disemboweled and decapitated body. Her skullcap was used as a soup bowl.
Human skin was found used as upholstery, lampshade and wastebasket.
Two skulls decorated his bed posts.
He had a belt made of dried and sewn female nipples and a knife with a human bone handle.
He had boxes filled with human parts (noses, lips and vulvas).
He made five masks out of human faces.
He denied having eaten or having intercourse with any of the corpses because 'they smelled too bad.'

He was psychologically abused by his mother.
He spent his life sentence in various mental institutions.
