The Resume

    (July 1, 1976 BC- )
    Born in Beirut, Lebanon
Acted in 'American Dreamz' (2006), 'The Visitor' (2007), 'AmericanEast' (2007), 'Dorfman in Love' (2008), and 'Highland Park' (2013)
Had recurring roles on the TV Series 'Nurse Jackie' (2009), 'The Promise' (2011), 'Nikita' (2010-2011), and 'Covert Affairs' (2012-2014)
Acted in the New York Stage production of 'Food and Fadwa'
Played the role of Jesus Christ in National Geographic Channel's TV adaptation of Bill O'Reilly's 'Killing Jesus' (2015)

Why he might be annoying:

When he first found out he landed the role, he reportedly exclaimed 'Jesus!' (and not in the Biblical sense...)
He has been typecast in ethnic roles, usually as immigrants or terrorists.
He kissed up to the smug, self-righteous conservative hypocrite Bill O'Reilly.
Ironically, he physically resembles the guest O'Reilly admitted he wanted 'to whack' and whose mic he cut during a heated exchange over 9/11, Jeremy Glick.
He claimed that the hardest part about playing Mo-Mo the gay nurse in 'Nurse Jackie' was the director telling him to 'talk about George Clooney like the most delicious meal you ever had.'
He stirred controversy by playing the part of Jesus Christ and admitting to being a practicing Muslim (and then claimed to be surprised that there was a conservative backlash).
It didn't help matters much that he is an open friend and Twitter follower of the controversial Islamic scholar Reza Aslan, author of a critical biography of Jesus Christ crudely titled, 'Zealot.'
He was sighted at a Morocco restaurant during the filming of 'Killing Jesus' dining and chatting with Juan Pablo Di Pace, who was filming NBC's 'AD: The Bible Continues,' also playing Jesus (only thing better than one Jesus sighting is two Jesus sightings...)

Why he might not be annoying:

He emigrated from Lebanon to the United States at the age of 21.
His mother allegedly responded to the news that her son would play Jesus by saying 'bless you for playing Jesus, peace be upon him.'
He won second place for the Best Ensemble Cast Boston Society of Film Critics Awards for 'The Visitor.'
He was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Independent Spirit Award for 'The Visitor.'
He was nominated for Best Ensemble Cast Gotham Award for his work in 'The Visitor.'
He defended his right to play Jesus in the film by saying that he had been 'shaped by his teachings' and by also pointing out that Muslims recognize Jesus Christ as a Prophet.
For all the Islamaphobe hostility directed at him, many viewers were relieved that the part of Jesus was being played by a man of actual Middle-Eastern descent for a change.
On the controversy over his playing Jesus, he said: 'As long as you're being respectful to one another because we need that dialogue... I see controversy as an opportunity. Yes, things can get ugly, yes sometimes bad things can happen, but we need that [dialogue].'
