    Composed music for the television series 'The Defenders,' 'The Twilight Zone,' 'Gibbsville,' and 'Marcus Welby M.D.'
    He experimented with LSD.
    He claimed that he tried the illegal drug because Aldous Huxley told him, 'You owe it to yourself to try it.'
    He composed music for the critically panned 1980 remake of 'The Jazz Singer.'
    He didn't marry until his late sixties.
    He was close friends with actor James Dean.
    He won two Oscars for scoring 'Barry Lyndon' and 'Bound for Glory.'
    He also won two Emmys for composing music for the TV films 'Sybil (1976)' and 'Friendly Fire (1979).'
    He was diagnosed with Frontotemporal dementia, a disease with similar symptoms to that of Alzheimer's disease.
