    His spacesuit proved more rigid than expected, preventing him from taking photos during his spacewalk as planned.
    Due to computer error, Voshkod 2 ended up landing 600 miles off target, forcing him to spend a couple of cold Siberian nights in the capsule with wolves outside.
    He was selected to be captain for the Soviet Union's canceled moon landing.
    During the spacewalk, his spacesuit expanded in the vacuum to the point that he could not re-enter the airlock; he had to open a valve to bleed off some of the air from the suit before he could get back inside the capsule.
    When a car they were riding in plunged into a lake, he pulled his wife and the driver to safety.
    He is a self-taught artist and took colored pencils with him into space during the Apollo-Soyuz mission and sketched his fellow astronauts.
    Arthur C. Clarke dedicated '2010' to him and Andrei Sakharov.
