    With Julia Child wrote 'Mastering the Art of French Cooking' (1961) and 'Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Vol. II' (1970)
    Also wrote 'Simca's Cuisine' (1972), 'Menus from Simca's Cuisine' (1979) and 'Food and Friends: Recipes and Memories from Simca's Cuisine' (1991)

Why she might be annoying:

    She was born into privilege as her mother was heiress to the Benedectine liqueur fortune.
    She left the Cordon Bleu cooking school without a diploma after six months.
    She was overshadowed by Julia Child.

Why she might not be annoying:

    When her second husband was a POW during WWII, she sent him gourmet food care packages that he shared with the 24 fellow officers in the prison.
    James Beard said, 'Simone Beck is the most consistently innovative cook I know.'
    Her recipes were said to combine 'the French insistence on high-quality ingredients with American practicality.'
    She said, 'I always preferred to write for Americans. French people think they already know everything about cooking.'
