The Resume

    (1971- )
    Born in London, United Kingdom
    Initial Members:
    Manfred Mann, keyboards and vocals
    Mick Rogers, guitar and vocals
    Colin Pattenden, bass guitar
    Chris Slade, drums
Best known for their hit cover of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Blinded by the Light’ (1977)

Why they might be annoying:

It ain’t clear why they have a separate profile instead of being lumped together with the British invasion Manfred Mann in the same way that the Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship share a profile.
On their first two British singles, they were credited as Manfred Mann, followed by two singles credited to ‘The Earth Band,’ after which they presumably decided to ram both names together.
They underwent numerous personnel changes with the only constant being (surprise!) keyboardist Manfred Mann.
They changed the lyrics of ‘Blinded by the Light,’ turning ‘cut loose like a deuce’ into ‘revved up like a deuce’ and, as a result, inspired the mishearing ‘wrapped up like a douche.’

Why they might not be annoying:

They topped the Billboard Hot 100 with a Bruce Springsteen song, something no other act (including Springsteen himself) has managed (though 2016).
Several of their albums had ecological themes.
Their British hit ‘Joyrider’ was based on the Jupiter movement from Gustav Holst’s ‘Planets Suite.’
Their song ‘Runner’ was featured in ABC’s coverage of the 1984 Summer Olympics.
