    When the group returned in 1972, Tim Hauser was the only original member.
    Their first big hit, ‘Operator,’ is about making a long distance call to Jesus.

    Their popularity peaked in the early 80s.
    They made a children’s album called ‘The Manhattan Transfer Meets Tubby the Tuba’ (1994).
    They are known for skillfully blending jazz with pop.
    They named themselves after the 20s novel ‘Manhattan Transfer’ by John Dos Passos.
    They revived interest in jazz and bebop.
    Tim Hauser met Janis Siegel and Laurie Masse while driving his cab.
    Laurel Masse was forced to quit the group when she got in a car accident (1977).
    Their disco hit 'Twilight Zone/Twilight Tone' was inspired by the 60s TV show of the same name.
    They were the first group to win Grammys in the pop and jazz categories in the same year (1982).
