The Resume

    (January 4, 1922-September 1, 1999)
    Born in London, United Kingdom
    Birth name was Doreen Dominy
High priestess of Gerald Gardner's Bricket Wood coven
Broke off to form her own coven (1957)
Wrote 'An ABC of Witchcraft' (1973) and 'Witchcraft for Tomorrow' (1978)
Called 'the mother of modern witchcraft'

Why she might be annoying:

She claimed to have practiced witchcraft as a teenager.
She kept her initiation by Gardner into Wicca secret from her mother and her husband.
When she recognized some of Gardner's 'ancient' Wiccan texts as passages from Aleister Crowley, instead of rejecting him as a fraud she helped rewrite the manuscripts.
She followed Margaret Murray's bogus theories that the witches persecuted in medieval Europe were part of a surviving pre-Christian religion.

Why she might not be annoying:

She claimed to have cast her first spell to protect her mother from being bullied by a co-worker.
Her first husband was a sailor in the British Navy who was declared missing and presumed dead six months after the wedding (1941).
She broke with Gardner over his relentless self-promotion.
She emphasized the difference between Wicca and Satanism.
