Why he might be annoying:

One of his nicknames was 'Babe.'
He was married 3 different times, and he supposedly cheated on each of his wives with other women.
He was constantly smoking cigars and cigarettes, some believe it might have helped speed up the coming of his strokes.
He was overweight and a heavy drinker.
His drinking helped him overcome his introverted ways but he suffered from depression.
In real life he was the most miserable stooge.
He was known as 'Curly' although he wore a crew-cut.

Why he might not be annoying:

All of his catch phrases are unique only to him, and nobody else can do them as well as he did.
He made more than 100 film appearances with the Three Stooges team.
He walked with a pronounced limp due to an accident as a child: one day at camp, he shot himself in the foot by accident with a rifle.
He never let it heal properly, and limped forever more.
To mask his limp on screen, he developed his famous exaggerated walk.
The final pie-fight scene of Half-Wits Holiday (1947) did not include Curly because he had suffered a stroke the day the scene was filmed.
He had several strokes that deteriorated his health until he died at 48.
