His portrayal of Gollum is one of the most frequently praised aspects of the 'Lord of the Rings' films.
His father was a doctor in Iraq and his mother taught handicapped children.
He provided not only the voice but the movements for Gollum, using a motion capture suit.
During filming of 'The Two Towers' he had to flail around in freezing cold water.
