Politician

The Resume

    (January 22, 1912-April 18, 1979)
    Born in United States
Birth name was Lawrence Joseph Sarsfield Daly
    American fringe Republican
Ran unsuccessfully for virtually every level of political office, including President of the United States, over a period of 40 years
Best known as the 'Tax Cut' and 'America First' candidate in the 1960 Presidential election
Ran against Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley (No relation) in 1959

Why he might be annoying:

His slogan was 'America First -- or Death.'
His trademark campaign prop was his Uncle Sam suit.
He campaigned driving around in an obnoxious 'sound truck.'
He ran against Sen. Everett Dirksen, in 1962, with the following platform: 'Invade. Cuba. Now.'
He believed that any witness invoking the 5th amendment should be sent to prison.
He believed that known drug dealers should be shot on sight.
He was a major proponent of legalizing gambling.
He frequently relied on a sandwich board with an address of where to send campaign contributions.
He created a cartoon foil for conservative Christian Americans, Dr. Cyclops, with a caption reading 'which do you oppose? Dr. Cyclops or America First?'
He tried to get President Truman to let him accompany the crew of the first American plane to fly over Moscow, so that he could release the atomic bomb over the Kremlin.
He called Dwight D. Eisenhower 'the poorest excuse for a president this United States of America has ever had.'
During the 1960 election, when the historic Kennedy-Nixon debates were broadcast, he cited Section 315 of the Communications Act ('the equal time provision') to convince the FCC to cede him free campaign air time on the Jack Paar Show.
He was actually booed by the Jack Paar studio audience, and was openly scolded by a flustered Paar, who accused him of 'clowning around.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He actually made Harold Stassen look like a credible candidate.
He also made Barry Goldwater look like a seasoned moderate.
In a shot at reverse psychology, he took out ads encouraging voters not to vote for him.
In all fairness, he supported giving dope peddlers a week-long warning to get out of town before having them shot.
His constant demands to be given equal time whenever a mainstream candidate appeared on air, led to Congress amending the 'equal time' provision so that it was no longer mandatory.
He earned a living by operating a chair and stool company out of the garage behind his house.
Shortly after his disastrous Paar Show appearance, he overheard two men watching the broadcast at a nearby bar. One of the men apparently said 'say, if that guy wasn’t so nutty, he’d be worth listening to.'
