Why he might be annoying:

Despite his status as a legend in Philadelphia, he was often overshadowed by Julius Erving, Moses Malone and Charles Barkley.
He became a journeyman player after leaving the Sixers.
Many basketball pundits have questioned his coaching style, deeming it soft and ineffective.
He failed to guide the Blazers past the first round in both appearances under his tenure.
His tenure as the Sixers head coach has been widely viewed as being a disappointment.

He was a fan favorite in Philadelphia.
The Sixers retired his jersey #10.
He was viewed as being a dominating defensive player during his prime.
He is considered a player's coach by basketball pundits.
He guided the Trail Blazers to come back from a 3-0 series deficit to narrowly upset the Dallas Mavericks in a first round playoff series (2003).
In a classy move, he helped 13 year old Natalie Gilbert sing 'Star Spangled Banner' when Gilbert was frozen after the second verse, the move prompted the sold out crowd to sing along and give both he and Gilbert a standing ovation.
