Why he might be annoying:

He is a one hit wonder.
He wrote the song after moving to Cornwall, England, which he described as a 'depressing place, economically downtrodden, with long, dark and rainy winters.'
His manager wouldn't let him make TV appearances or tour the States, which effectively shut his career down.
In 2007 his cremated remains were shot into space.

Why he might not be annoying:

His father died in a car accident when he was 12.
As a B-side record 'Just When I Needed You Most' hit #4 on Billboard's Singles chart (in a Top 40 dominated by disco) and was certified gold.
He wrote 'Suzie's Got A Weapon' in honor of a P.R. person for his record label, and wound up marrying her.
She sent a song he wrote, 'It Never Hurts to Hurt Sometimes' to the producer of the Oak Ridge Boys, and they turned into a #1 country smash in 1984.
Alabama turned his 'I’m In A Hurry (and Don’t Know Why)' into the Country Music Association's '#1 Song Award' in 1992.
