    (July 25, 1959-August 27, 2013)
    Born in Laksy, Ukraine
Confessed to killing 52 people (1989-96)
Nicknamed 'Citizen O,' 'the Beast of Ukraine' and 'the Terminator'
    Died in jail
He was treated for schizophrenia at a hospital in Kiev.
He claimed to talk to God and Hitler.
His usual modus operandi was to find an isolated house, kill all family members living there, and burn down the buildings to destroy any evidence left behind.
He would also kill any witnesses unfortunate enough to arrive on the scene during his killing sprees.
He gave his girlfriend an engagement ring that he had stolen by cutting off a victim's finger.
Despite a massive manhunt involving 2,000 police and a national guard unit, he was only discovered when a relative found his weapons cache and reported it to the authorities.
After his trial, he said 'I have never regetted anything and I don't regret anything now.'
He escaped execution when Ukraine eliminated the death penalty in order to join the European Union.
He said, 'If I am ever let out, I will start killing again. But this time it will be worse. Ten time worse.'
After his mother died, his father continued raising his older brother but placed him in an orphanage.
During his trial, members of the public spat on him while he sat in a cage in the courtroom.
Sergei Rogozin said, 'He seemed good natured. I can't say anything bad about him.' (However, Rogozin was his co-defendant in killing a family of ten, so he may not be the best character witness.)
