    In some of her shorts, her last name was spelled 'Gonzales.'
    She was billed as 'the Virgina White Lily of the Screen.'
    Although she was usually cast as an outdoorsy heroine in action films, in reality she was in fragile health due to a heart condition.
    She was Hollywood's first Latina film star.
    She died in the 1918 Spanish influenza epidemic.
    She was mentioned by President George W. Bush in his proclamation for National Hispanic Heritage Month (September, 2002).
