    (1879- )
    Founded by Mary Baker Eddy
Official name is Church of Christ, Scientist
    Based in Boston, Massachusetts
Main religious text is 'Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures' (1875)
Has under 100,000 adherents worldwide (2010)
It has absolutely nothing to do with science.
It teaches that the spiritual world is the only reality while the material world is just an illusion.
It also teaches that death, sickness, and injuries are 'errors' caused by wrong thinking.
It discourages followers from seeking conventional medical treatment, resulting in unnecessary deaths among adherents and their children caused by preventable causes like curable diseases.
It views Heaven, Hell, and the afterlife as 'states of the mind' rather than real places.
Mark Twain accused Mary Baker Eddy of using the religion to gain power and wealth for herself.
Membership of the religion is declining.
They don't have an ordained clergy.
They don't treat God as a genie who is obliged to cater to their every whim.
Eddy later softened her stance against vaccinations and urged followers to get them if obliged to do so by the laws of their land.
Some of its members include Doris Day, Val Kilmer, and Mickey Rooney.
Recently, they have stated that their brand of faith healing is meant to be used as a supplement, not a replacement, to conventional medicine.
