Mayor

The Resume

    (July 26, 1978- )
    Born in Miami, Florida
    Andrew Demese Gillum
    Mayor of Tallahassee (2014-18)
Ran for Governor of Florida, losing to Representative Ron DeSantis after a controversial electronic recount (2018)
    Democrat

Why he might be annoying:

He was accused of 'playing the race card' against Ron DeSantis on several occasions.
Local partisans accused him of mishandling the city government's high crime rate.
George Soros donated to his campaign (way to provide the Right with ammo!)
His campaign was overshadowed by an ongoing FBI investigation into one of his former business partners.
He was scrutinized after he was caught using a city-purchased email system to send out campaign-related emails.
He was criticized for photographing a ballot while voting for himself during the primary election.
He made the controversial decision to withdraw his concession after the electronic recount was announced.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first of his family to graduate high school.
He graduated from Florida A&M University with a Bachelors in Political Science.
He was elected to Tallahassee City Commissioner at the age of 23, making him the youngest person to be elected to the office.
He was named as one of the 40 Under 40 by The Washington Post's The Fix blog (2014).
He vocally criticized Governor Rick Scott over his response to Hurricane Hermine, which devastated the Tallahassee area in 2016.
He ran a dark horse campaign on progressive issues during the primaries and secured a come-from-behind victory.
When he was asked during a Showtime interview if he thought he was playing the race card, he answered: 'If I am … that’s the hand I was dealt' (DeSantis was famously accused of using dog whistle tactics by telling Floridians not to 'monkey this up' by voting for a Democrat).
President Trump was accused of using racist dog whistles to attack him on several occasions, at one point calling him 'a thief.'
