    (June 14, 1925-October 16, 2004)
    Born in San Francisco, California
White House Press Secretary (1961-64) for Presidents Kennedy and Johnson
Campaign manager for Robert F. Kennedy (1968)
    European correspondent for ABC News
He was appointed to fill a vacant Senate seat, but lost his bid for a full term a few months later in an election in which he was accused of being a 'carpetbagger' who had moved back to California solely to qualify for the office (1964).
He announced he had proof that TWA flight 800 had been brought down by a missile in a friendly-fire incident (1996).
His proof turned out to be bogus documents from an internet hoax.
He inspired the phrase 'Pierre Salinger Syndrome' for people who believe everything they read on the internet.
He moved permanently to France to protest George W. Bush's election.
At 17, he enlisted in the Navy during World War II.
He was with Robert Kennedy when he was assassinated.
He won a George Polk Award for reporting on the Iranian hostage crisis (1981) and an Emmy for reporting on the bombing of PanAm flight 103 (1989).
GIven the number of liberal celebrities who threatened to leave the country if Bush was elected but didn't, it is kind of refreshing to find one who followed through.
