Vocalist
    (May 4, 1938-February 9, 2005)
    Born in Greenville, Mississippi
Recorded the singles 'Can I Change My Mind' (1969), 'Turn Back the Hands of Time' (1970), 'There It Is' (1973), 'Turning Point' (1975), 'Give It Up' (1976), 'This I Swear' (1977), 'Get On Up (Disco)' (1978) , 'In the Mood' (1979) and 'Are You Serious' (1982)
Before his recording career took off, he worked as blues musician Freddie King's chauffeur and valet.
He was billed as 'Tyrone the Wonder Boy' on his first single (1965).
He dressed in the cliched 70s soul singer style of open-necked shirts showing off multiple gold chains.
His pleading vocal style was parodied on Cheech and Chong's single 'Basketball Jones Featuring Tyrone Shoelaces.'
'Can I Change My Mind' and 'Turn Back the Hands of Time' both hit #1 on the R&B chart and top 5 on the pop chart and were certified gold records with sales of over a million copies.
He was so popular with the ladies that he set up a photo booth at his shows so female fans could have their picture taken with him.
Despite his ladies' man image, he was a loyal family man, being married to his wife Ann for over 40 years until his death.
After he suffered a stroke (2004), blues singer Otis Clay organized a benefit concert that featured performances by Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor and Jerry Butler.
