Why she might be annoying:

She began sleeping with Neal while he was married to his first wife.
She had a long-term affair with Jack Kerouac. (Albeit, with Neal's encouragement.)
She said about the Beat Generation, 'Kids in school are still eating it up. I don't understand it. I don't see any value in that at all, culturally.'
She said about Kerouac, 'If I hadn't known him, I never would have read any of his books.'
She moved to England, saying 'There is nothing I like about America.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She was a painter who sold her first portrait at age 14.
She was a costume designer and makeup artist for the San Jose Opera Company and the University of Santa Clara drama club.
Neal got another woman pregnant and bigamously married her (1950).
She noted about Neal, 'He twice threw away our savings.'
Many years after Neal's death she noted, 'I am friends with his first wife and last mistress and we all miss him.'
