Why he might be annoying:

    He was widely criticized for using public funds to stage an anti-gun rally during his time as mayor of Richmond.
    He is personally opposed to abortion despite not wanting to overturn Roe v. Wade.
    Despite his opposition to capital punishment, he oversaw eleven executions in Virginia during his time as governor.
    He initially was opposed same-sex marriage and stated that same-sex couples could not adopt.
    He supported the construction of a coal fire plant which drew criticism from environmentalists.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He completed his economics degree from the University of Missouri within three years.
    He is fluent in both English and Spanish.
    Under his watch, Richmond's economic growth led Forbes magazine to recognize the city as on of its top 10 cities for doing business.
    He gave the Democrat Party's response to the 2006 State of the Union address.
    He eventually declared his support for same sex marriage in May 2013.
