    (July 16, 1855-February 20, 1909)
    Born in Bern, Switzerland
Namesake for the Lindt & Sprungli AG confectionery company
Founder of the Rod Lindt fils company (1879)
2008 Candy Hall of Fame inductee
    He was born into wealth.
His selectiveness about whom he sold to eventually left him unable to meet the demand for his already-scarce chocolate.
Initially uninterested in a larger workload – let alone expansion – he sold his business to the Sprungli group — which in turn snapped up the rights to his brand name for 1,5 million francs.
His resignation from the company’s Bern factory in 1905 (Sprungli worked the Zurich factory) touched off a two-decade legal battle over a contract breach by his brother August and cousin Walter — who formed their own company with the ‘Lindt’ name.
Neither he nor his partner lived to see the resolution of the dispute.
    His father was a pharmacist.
Named for the shape of the trough and roller he used to heat and aerate his chocolate mixtures and later add cocoa butter, his conching process revolutionized the overall manufacture of chocolate.
He was also at the heart of another manufacturing development that followed the process: the chocolate liquefied, thus allowing it to be poured into moulds and speed up production.
He was more interested in the quality of his products than the quantity.
