Animator

The Resume

    (April 1, 1957- )
    Born in Gdansk, Poland
Character animator for Walt Disney Animation Studios (1981- )
Worked on the films 'The Black Cauldron' (1985), 'The Great Mouse Detective' (1986), 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' (1988), ‘The Little Mermaid’ (1989), ‘Beauty and the Beast’ (1991), ‘Aladdin’ (1992), 'Lion King' (1994), ‘Hercules’ (1997), 'Lilo & Stitch' (2002), 'Enchanted' (2007), 'Princess and the Frog' (2009), and 'Winnie the Pooh' (2011)
Author of 'The Nine Old Men: Lessons, Techniques, and Inspiration from Disney's Great Animators'

Why he might be annoying:

As an animator he has been typecast in antagonist/villain parts.
His biggest career regret is turning down the chance to animate the character of Frollo in 'Hunchback of Notre Dame.'
He is such a diehard devotee of traditional hand-drawn animation that he has refused work on Disney's subsequent CGI-division projects, instead choosing to support himself animating for television commercials and animated shorts for Disney Parks (thereby missing out on hits like 'Frozen' and 'Zootopia').

Why he might not be annoying:

He credits seeing Disney's The Jungle Book as an 11-year-old with inspiring him to become an animator.
He sent a letter to Walt Disney Productions as a child expressing his interest in working there, and received back a form letter which he has kept ever since.
He was paired with Tim Burton during his early years doing concept art with Disney.
He has often discussed how his experience as an openly gay man has informed the design of his characters.
He had either the luck or foresight (or both) to choose to work on 'The Lion King' when many animators were instead choosing to work on 'Pocahontas,' which they mistakenly thought would be more prestigious and the bigger hit.
He said: 'Villains are the most fun to animate. It's fine to have a villain who beats people up and calls them names but the more important thing for me is whether or not they are they interesting. The villains that are interesting are the ones you remember.'
