    He got his nickname 'Pudge' as a result of having a chubby stature.
    His balding hairstyle made him look older then he actually was.
    He was known for carrying a wrestling guide around during his high school years, taking notes about matches and asking other wrestlers about how to perfect their moves.
    He wore wrestling attire under his clothes at all times.
    His death in the Philadelphia area initially led some people to believe that the hockey player was killed, prior to clarification.
    He was dyslexic, which was mistaken for intellectual disabilities.
    He earned a total of sixteen medals during the course of his career.
    He was the first American to win the prestigious Tbilisi International Wrestling Tournament (1984).
    He was Kurt Angle's first wrestling coach.
    He was considered one of the most knowledgeable people in freestyle wrestling, prior to his death.
    He was gunned down by John du Pont, while working on his vehicle.
    Following his death, his widow opened the Dave Schultz Wrestling Club, in order to help finance the wrestlers who were members of the Foxcatcher Club train in time for the Atlanta Olympics.
