    Through her marriage to John Spencer, was stepmother of Princess Diana
    Her first and third marriages ended in divorce.
    She began an affair with John Spencer when they were both married to other people.
    She did not get along with John Spencer’s children from his first marriage, who nicknamed her ‘acid Raine.’
    After she redecorated Althorp, the ancestral home of the Spencer family, her stepson Charles said the results revealed ‘the wedding cake vulgarity of a five-star hotel in Monaco.’
    She sold the pictures of her third wedding to ‘Hello!’ magazine for £70,000.
    She was Deb of the Year (1947).
    Ingrid Seward of ‘Majesty’ magazine said that the Spencer children were ‘absolutely vile’ to her, with Diana once pushing her down the stairs at Althorp.
    She nursed John Spencer back to health after he suffered a stroke (1978).
    Her relationship with Diana underwent a ‘dramatic turnaround’ towards the end of Diana’s life, with the two talking on the phone each morning and lunching together weekly as Diana told her of her problems with the royal family.
    Prince Philip said, ‘If you want to get anything organized, send for Raine.’
