    After his mother death, he removed the name 'Mellon' from the Sarah Mellon Scaife Galleries and Sarah Mellon Scaife Foundation.
    Despite his animosity towards the Mellon name, he was willing to accept the Mellon fortune.
    He bankrolled a number of anti-Clinton efforts. He spent $2 million funding an attempt to prove Clinton murdered Vince Foster.
    He endowed a new school of public policy at Pepperdine University, which then offered the post of dean of the new school to Whitewater investigator Ken Starr.
    When reporter Karen Rothmeyer tried to interview him for a story in the Columbia Journalism Review on 'The New Right,' Scaife called her a 'fucking Communist cunt.'
    He donated money to PBS, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the National Gallery of Art, and a number of universities.
    During the height of the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, he provided donations to beautify the White House. He was invited to a black-tie celebration by Hillary Clinton.
    Despite his earlier financial support of Richard Nixon, hr broke with him after Watergate and refused to speak to him.
    Tribune-Review employees described him as 'affable and kind.'
