Why he might be annoying:

He took various drugs in the '60s and '70s.
He did drugs (and shared women) with Jimi Hendrix.
He has an overbearing personality and a control freak.
He is twice divorced. One marriage lasted less than 2 years (1967-69).
He starred in the completely forgettable semi-autobiographical film 'Comeback (1982).'
    He plays the 'oldies circuit.'

Why he might not be annoying:

The Animals are considered to be 2nd only to the Rolling Stones in influence among R&B-based bands of the '60s British Invasion.
'House of the Rising Sun' was a #1 smash in both the U.S. and U.K. in the summer of 1964.
While fronting War, a group of session musicians, they had a surprise novelty hit with 'Spill The Wine' (1970).
The song put War on the map and they went on without him to record hits like 'All Day Music,' 'The World is a Ghetto,' 'The Cisco Kid,' 'Why Can't We Be Friends,' 'Low Rider' and 'Summer.'
He guest appeared as a backstage manager in the Oliver Stone movie 'The Doors (1991).'
The BBC has banned 'We Gotta Get Out of This Place' as an anti-war song during the Iraqi conflict.
He has health problems and only performs in non-smoking venues.
He was praised by some legendary blues artists as one of a handful of white singers who can 'lay down blues tracks with depth, heart & soul.'
