    Former head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers (1980-82) and the Minnesota Timberwolves (1989-91)
    Also coached in the American and Continental Basketball Associations
    He was considered a coaching nomad.
    His NBA coaching record was horrendous.
    He never played a game in the professional ranks, opting to coach when his college career ended.
    He left the University of Minnesota program in tatters after it was revealed the team had violated various NCAA rules during his tenure.
    He allegedly encouraged two of his players to attack an opposing player during a game (1972).
    He was part of a rotating carousel of head coaches in Cleveland during the Stepien years.
    He was considered a hot tempered head coach by basketball players and pundits alike.
    He once stated 'defeat is worse than death, because you have to live with defeat' in an interview.
    He was described as being a likable man by his former players.
    He took his first coaching position at the age of 23.
    He was described as being an excellent motivator and tactician by former players and pundits alike.
    He gradually worked his way up the basketball coaching ladder, starting in the high school ranks to the NBA.
    He served as the first head coach in the history of the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise.
    He was the Timberwolves franchise leader in overall victories, prior to Flip Saunders.
    He and his son, Eric became the first father and son coaching tandem in NBA history.
