    He has four middle names: Pierre, Marie, Jean and Georges.
    Critics frequently describe his films as beautiful looking but emotionally distant.
    He said, 'Everyone wants to think of me as a dedicated intellectual, but truthfully, I don't really like making films. If I didn't have to earn a living, I wouldn't work at all.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    His 'Van Gogh' won an Oscar for best short film (1949).
    He rejected the auteur label, saying 'I'm no more an auteur than the actors or technicians on the film.'
    Known for his innovative film techniques, he said 'I enjoy surprising as a filmmaker, just as I enjoy being surprised as a spectator.'
