Why he might be annoying:

To make a flight back to Nicaragua after one particularly bloody fight, he had a doctor perform plastic surgery on his cuts without anesthesia during a train ride.
He declared, 'When I quit, I'm not going to come back one year later like some other guys.'
Instead, he waited three years before attempting an unsuccessful comeback.
During his retirement, he abused cocaine.
He took up arms against the Sandinistas in the 80s, then changed sides and joined them in the 90s.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the sixth boxer to win championships at three different weights, and the first to not lose any of his titles in the ring.
He said of his boxing style, 'I'm an artist. Boxing should be beautiful.... It should be like ballet dancing.'
Ring magazine named him one of the 20 best fighters of the previous 80 years (2002) and one of the 20 best punchers of all time (2003).
He was chosen to be Nicaragua's flag bearer at the Beijing Olympics (2008).
