Baseball Player

The Resume

    (July 27, 1966- )
Played for Kansas City Royals (1990, 1992, 1998), Florida Marlins (1993-97, 2003-05), Baltimore Orioles (1999-2003, 2006), Philadelphia Phillies (2006), New York Mets (2007) and Cincinnati Reds (2007)

Why he might be annoying:

    His middle name is Guy.
He attended college and played baseball at UCLA.
He had two different major league stints with the Kansas City Royals (1990-1992, 1998) and the Florida Marlins (1993-1997, 2003).
He was named to the National League All-Star Team in 1994, but did not get to play.
He hit for a career-low (for a full season) .242 batting average in 1997, the same year he won the World Series with the Florida Marlins.
His substandard performance led to losing his starting job towards the end of the season and he wound up only starting against left-handed pitchers.
His daughter is named Sierra; his sons are named Griffin and Tucker.

Why he might not be annoying:

During his second All-Star game appearance, he hit a pinch-hit home run which put the National League ahead to stay and garnered him the All-Star Game MVP honor (1995).
In the first regular-season game in Florida Marlins history, Jeff got base hits in all four at-bats in a victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He was one of two original Florida Marlins to be on the 1997 World Series-winning squad.
He is an accomplished racquetball player, having won the 1985 IRF World Junior Racquetball Championships.
He is involved in many charitable causes and since 1994 has hosted a charity golf tournament to benefit the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in South Florida.
Despite not having played for the Florida Marlins for over five-and-a-half years, he remained ‘Mr. Marlin’ in the eyes of the usually fickle South Florida sports fans, and was enthusiastically welcomed upon his return in September 2003.
He is a rarity in modern sports – an all-around good guy who is soft-spoken, leads by example and is respected by teammates and opponents.
