    Resided in Prague and New York City
    Best known for his ‘New World’ Symphony (1893)
    Wrote symphonies, chamber music, concertos and the opera ‘Rusalka’

    He got famous by sucking up to Johannes Brahms.
    He badmouthed Brahms behind his back because Brahms wasn’t religious.
    He fell in love with his music student.
    When she shouldn’t marry him, he married her sister instead.
    He loved pigeons, which are filthy animals.

    He was modest.
    He was happily married for more than 30 years.
    Three of his children died in infancy.
    He was fascinated by African-American spirituals.
    He spent a lot of time in the black community, which wasn’t fashionable at the time.
    He died suddenly at 63.
    He was one of the greatest 19th-century composers.
    Neil Armstrong brought a recording of his ‘New World’ Symphony to the moon (1969).
