Cheerleaders

The Resume

    (2002- )
Dance Skating Cheerleaders of the NY Rangers
    Charged owners with Sexual Harassment
Operated by Madison Square Garden and Cablevision
Full squad is twelve women, range in age 18-30
2004 Squad is Alyssa, Amea, Angela, Bridie, Carissa, Elana, Heather, Kate, Kim, Mary-Ellen, Rebecca and Trina
    Responsibilities are:
    1 - Executing in-arena promotions (on ice and in-stand)
2 - Performing choreographed routines (with specialty lighting and music)
3 - Assisting with sponsored team giveaways
4 - Assisting with sponsored and team promotions (on ice and in-stand)

Why they might be annoying:

Most Rangers fans are unaware they have a cheerleading squad. They would rather watch the Zamboni.
Although the full squad is twelve, only six are used at a time.
They don't like being labeled cheerleaders, as they prefer to be called professional skaters.
They rarely do choreographed cheers. Instead, they do promo competitions like the Human Puck Race.
One of the dancers is named Bridie.
Their boss called the 2002-03 Rangers City Skaters 'the ugliest girls in the NHL' (Are there any girls in the NHL?).
He ordered captain Courtney Prince, 25, to make this season's squad more attractive.
Prince told the NY Post that an exec told her he didn't want them looking like the Knick City Dancers (MSG's basketball cheerleaders) because they were 'too thick and ghetto.'
Prince said while out with an MSG exec, he 'went on to list which girls (of the group) he wanted to have sex with and how.' He also tried to kiss her but she backed away (December 22, 2003).
Prince was suspended (permanently) for her accusations of charging a Madison Square Garden executive with sexual harassment (January 2004).
Prince then filed sexual harassment charges with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Prince said the only reason she filed papers is because another dancer confided that the same MSG exec has harassed her.
Prince alleges some were told to lose weight, get breast implants or get a hair piece.
Prince alleges 'some of these skaters are as young as 18, and some of them were taken to bars regularly by older, married Madison Square Garden management employees.'
Prince alleges MSG cut out their sandwiches and free cookies, because they were putting on weight.
Prince's attorney Kathleen Peratis said the above allegations are just 'the tip of the iceberg.'
Peratis said the MSG execs cared more about 'weight, breast size and sex appeal' than skating skill.
Rangers City Skater Amea Smith, told the NY Post, that an exec made 'sexually inappropriate' remarks to her and others but 'most of the girls won't say anything because they're afraid of losing their jobs.'

Why they might not be annoying:

They entertain between periods (get it?).
As to the sexual harassment charge, MSG spokesman Barry Watkins said: 'This charge is without merit and we will defend these allegations before the EEOC.'
They need to be excellent skaters first.
Some have trained for the Olympics.
They pioneered the all female cheering skating squad in the NHL.
They are a diversion during the between period time outs.
