Student
    (circa 1988- )
    Duke University graduate
Wrote a mock thesis 'An education beyond the classroom: excelling in the realm of horizontal academics' ranking the performances of 13 sexual partners, mostly Duke athletes
Sent the document to three friends before her graduation
Went viral and became an internet sensation
She had a lot of sex while drunk. ('In my blackout state, still managed to crawl into bed with a Duke athlete.')
She had sex in the university library during finals week, which seems rude towards the people who needed the library for studying.
In ranking her partners, 'Points were deducted for rudeness or being Canadian.' (What's up with that, eh?)
Her thesis included the names and pictures of the men she slept with, violating their privacy.
Her first response to the thesis going public was saying that she would 'get some fantastic stories for the grandkids.'
Duke's PR department was probably less than thrilled about this issue cropping up after the brouhaha over the rape allegation against the lacrosse team had finally died down.
Some of the reactions to her thesis were over the top, such as the Duke student newspaper editorializing, 'She managed to demean the opposite sex to the point where one must ask if the term weaker sex shouldn't be replaced with freakier sex.' (Because before Karen Owen, no girl ever slept around.)
She later said, 'I regret it with all my heart. I would never intentionally hurt the people that are mentioned on that.'
A Harper Collins editor wrote, 'Even though I'm sure she's horrified that her, uh, presentation, which was intended for a small group of friends, has gone viral, she's a very good, funny writer, and I'm wondering if she has any interest in writing a book.'
