Actress
    (November 8, 1932-March 27, 2018)
    Born in Versailles, France
Birth name was Colette Suzanne Dacheville
Married to actor Jean-Louis Trintignant (1954-56) and director Claude Chabrol (1964-80)
Appeared in the films 'Les Cousins' (1959), 'Les Bonnes Femmes' (1960), 'Les Biches' (1968), 'The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie' (1972), 'And Then There Were None' (1974), 'Violette Noziiere' (1978), 'The Big Red One' (1980), 'Babette's Feast' (1987), 'Faceless' (1988) and 'Madeline' (1998)
Appeared in the TV miniseries 'Brideshead Revisited' (1981)
During the filming of 'Bluebird' (1963), producer Carlo Ponti hated her performance so much that he asked, 'Who's that slut playing Fernande?' (In response, Chabrol, who was already engaged to her, shouted 'That's my woman!' and slapped Ponti's face.)
In 'Les Biches,' she had erotic scenes with ex-husband Tritignant that were directed by current husband Chabrol.
After Chabrol divorced her and her acting career went into a slump, she started suffering psychosomatic illnesses (memory loss, difficulty concentrating, fainting fits, chronic fatigue), eventually turning to traditional Chinese medicine for treatment.
She signed the Manifesto of the 343 to support legalizing abortion in France (1971), then, after he conversion to Chinese medicine, said she regretted the decision.
Her European success never translated to American films, with US audiences generally finding her unemotional acting style cold.
Critic Vincent Canby called her 'one of the great natural resources of European films.'
She was named a knight of the Legion of Honor.
She was a fan of horror films, which was why she appeared in Jesus Franco's 'Faceless.'
She said, 'I like challenges and I like jumping into the unknown.'
