Why Dynasty might be annoying
It premiered as a three hour movie.
Its target audience was upscale adults.
The cast turn-over rate was astronomical.
Many actors and actresses were fired from the show for little things like asking for more screen time.
Many of the storylines and plot decisions were made by ABC executives.
Al Corley quit the series after ABC demanded his character Steven Carrington be cured of his homosexuality.
In order to explain the completely different-looking actor playing Steven Carrington after Corley quit, they wrote a storyline where Steven was in a gay-curing oil rig explosion that left his face disfigured.
The character Alexis Carrington is a rip-off of J.R. Ewing from Dallas.
It lost a majority of their viewers after the cliffhanger finale of one of their seasons involving a massacre at a wedding where terrorists machine gun the Carringtons. The next season opener, it turned out, only an unpopular guest character (who was not even at the wedding) and Steven's gay lover died.
There was at least two instances where a character was killed off and brought back to life.
It spent a lot of time developing characters for its unsuccessful spin-off, 'The Colbys.'
It was more focused on clothing and style rather than writing and acting.
Its working title was 'Oil.'
It was cancelled when there was still many plot lines left unresolved.
Why Dynasty might not be annoying
It was called by one critic 'the ultimate guilty pleasure program.'
TV Guide declared it as the best soap opera of the 1980s.
It features Rock Hudson's last role.
At one point, it had a weekly budget of $1.2 million.
It featured the first gay character in a prime-time television series.
A television movie 'Dynasty: The Reunion' brought closure to the remaining plot lines.
