Died of complications following surgery to remove a tumor

Why he might be annoying:

He was stereotyped as prissy 'gay but we can't call them that' characters.
He was the first announcer on 'The Tonight Show' with Jack Paar, but was soon replaced by Hugh Downs.
For his last performance, as part of the cast of 'The Red Skelton Show,' his name was misspelled 'Franklyn' in the credits.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the army in World War I.
He was an effective foil for several big-name comedians, notably W.C. Fields, with whom he co-starred in three films.
He was a master of the slow burn, working himself up into hysteria as events on screen spun out of control.
He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
