U.S. Governor

The Resume

    (April 27, 1951- )
    Born in Charleston, West Virginia
    James Conley Justice II
36th Governor of West Virginia (Inaugurated January 16, 2017)
Founder and owner of Bluestone Farms (Founded 1977; later Bluestone Industries and Coal Corporation)
Purchased the Greenbrier luxury resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV (2009)
President of the Beckley Little League (1992- )
Serves as chief executive officer of nearly 50 companies (as of 2017)
Owns over 70 coal mines in five states
Estimated net worth of $1.59 billion (as of 2017)
Announced his intention to change his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican at a highly-publicized President Trump rally (Aug. 3, 2017)

Why he might be annoying:

NPR called him a 'top mine safety delinquent' for his company history of violations/unpaid taxes.
He brought a wheelbarrow of bull manure to the state capital to make a point about the budget deficit.
His appearance has prompted the predictable 'fat jokes' but he's not so much obese as he is 'hulky' in the 'Boss Tweed' Kingpin-mold.
He tried to play both sides of the fence on the global warming issues, saying: 'I surely wouldn't sit here and say I am a believer ... but I wouldn't sit here and say that I am not concerned.'
His 'party switch' announcement was probably contrived as a convenient distraction from the news that FBI Director Robert Mueller had issued subpoenas for a grand jury in the Russian collusion investigation.
In the middle of his five-minute speech a brawl broke out between a protestor and rally attendees which at one point resulted in a headlock (cheers broke out when security put a stop to it, which Justice initially mistook as being for him).
The announcement is a little less remarkable given that he had already been a Republican until less than two months prior to filing to run for Governor as a Democrat (but who are we kidding here?)
The 'defect' announcement also couldn't have come off as that much of a shock considering both his refusal to endorse Hillary Clinton for President and his dismissing the notion that he had ever been an Obama supporter as 'complete dog snot' (now if Liz Warren or Chuck Schumer defected now THAT would be news!)

Why he might not be annoying:

His name sounds like a DC Comics Superhero. (Or maybe Marvel, given Stan Lee's penchant for alliterative names.)
He is a seven time national corn growing champion.
He built his fortune off of his family's modest farming business, compounding it into a multi-million dollar enterprise.
He had no prior experience either in elected office or electoral politics prior to his running for Governor.
He is an active patron and coach within youth sports, and has coached both the girls and boys' basketball teams at Greenbrier East High School (the former winning the state championship in 2012).
His work with the Beckley Little League also resulted in the organization's surge to over 1,000 additional members in 80 teams.
He has been a good friend of the Trump family for years, even having gone hunting with Donald Trump, Jr., on occasion.
After purchasing The Greenbrier, he brought back 650 laid-off employees and added vacation and health benefits to their contracts.
He gives away more than $1 million annually in Christmas gifts through the Dream Tree for Kids campaign.
He had plans to collaborate with Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Gary Player, and Arnold Palmer on a mountain-top golf course before running for Governor, but Palmer's death slowed the plans down dramatically.
His reasoning for refusing to support both the Obama and Clinton candidacies was over their own separate admissions that their policies would bankrupt the coal industry and put miners out of work.
