Why he might be annoying:

He once ran for President when he was in prison (1920).
He formed the American Socialist Party.
When he was president of the American Railway Union, it waged the disastrously unsuccessful and violent Pullman Strike (1894).
Because of that, he was jailed for six months, which during that time he became a socialist.
Despite running for President five times, the biggest percentage he ever got was six percent.

Why he might not be annoying:

Despite coming from a middle class family, he became a labor leader when he saw how big corporations took advantage of its workers.
It tried to persuade his ARU members that the Pullman Strike was too risky, but the members ignored him.
He was a pacifist who got a ten-year jail sentence because he opposed World War I.
He got nearly one million votes for president when he was in prison.
President Harding later pardoned him (1921).
He supported 'radical' causes at the time such as women's suffrage, eight-hour workdays, and social security.
