The Resume

    (March 6, 1916-January 17, 1972)
    Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
    Rochelle Elizabeth Hudson
Portrayed Cosette in the original film version of 'Les Miserables' (1935)
Best known as Mary Blair (the older sister) in 'Curly Top' with Shirley Temple (1935)
Acted in 'Wild Boys of the Road,' 'Life Begins at 40,' 'Poppy,' 'Rebel Without a Cause,' 'Doctor Bull,' 'Pride of the Navy,' 'Queen of Broadway,' 'Bush Pilot,' 'Sky Liner,' and 'The Night Walker'
Guested on episodes of 'Racket Squad,' 'Schlitz Playhouse of Stars,' '77 Sunset Strip,' and 'Gallery of Horrors'

Why she might be annoying:

She married and divorced four times.
She tacked two extra years onto her age when she signed with RKO (fifteen in reality, she wouldn't have been accepted as a leading lady otherwise).
Into her forties, she resembled Lady Bird Johnson.
She was briefly in the running for the role of Scarlet O'Hara but was scratched off early in the competition.
She struggled to maintain steady work and left Hollywood periodically - to begin a series of different careers each time (Arizona rancher, working on a petroleum refinery in Tulsa, and selling real estate in Palm Desert).
Her last major film role was playing Joan Crawford's sister-in-law in the cult B-horror flick, 'Straight Jacket.'
Sam Staggs critiqued her performance in 'Imitation' as follows: '[She] could have phoned in sick every day and we'd have hardly noticed. Her part is built on teen chatter, and at the end - you wonder why someone at Universal didn't dock the screenwriters' pay.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She was fluent in Spanish and French.
She was pushed into movie acting by her mother - an ambitious stage parent.
She took part in the risqué 'Imitation of Life' - dealing in the taboo topic of race relations - playing Claudette Colbert's daughter.
She was a favorite cast mate of fellow Okie Will Rogers who cast her in four of his pictures.
She enjoyed a brief comeback playing Natalie Wood's mother in Nicholas Ray's 'Rebel Without a Cause.'
She took time off from acting in the early forties to join her second husband (a Naval spy) in his government work.
On one mission, they discovered an airstrip in a remote part of Baja - hidden nearby was a cache of aviation gas supplied by German operatives for a planned Japanese invasion of the West Coast.
