Why he might be annoying:

He opted to use the stage name 'Marilyn,' which often confused people since he is a male.
Despite recording four singles in a three year period, he did not record an album until two years after his initial single was released.
His career nosedived considerably after the release of his album.
He was heavily into drugs, which was a contributing factor in his decline in popularity.
He briefly returned to the mainstream media, after he revealed he was involved in a relationship with Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale during the 1980's.

He, along with Boy George, got their break by performing in London's underground punk scene.
He adopted the stage name 'Marilyn' in honor of the late Marilyn Monroe.
He contributed his vocals on the 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' recording for the Ethopian Famine Appeal (1984).
He admitted in recent years that his drug use and struggles were a result of the unexpected fame he received in the 1980's.
