Designed the album sleeves for 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' by the Beatles, 'Face Dances' by the Who, 'Stop the Clocks' by Oasis, 'Sweet Child' by Pentangle and 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' by Band Aid
Knighted for services to art (2002)

Why he might be annoying:

He said, 'When I made a portrait of Elvis I was hoping for an audience of 16-year-old girl Elvis fans, although that never really worked.'
He said that the success of 'Sgt. Pepper' became something of a curse, since he is asked about in every single interview.
He designed shopping bags for the Lucky Brand Jeans company.
When he was 65, he made a 'conceptual announcement' of his retirement, but kept painting, later explaining, 'I had retired from jealousy, anger, ambition - all the nasty things about the art world.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He got paid only £200 for creating perhaps the most famous and iconic album cover in rock history.
He was described as 'the most British of artists.'
He designed a series of prints to celebrate Liverpool's selection as a European Capital of Culture (2008).
He championed the Young British Artists (YBA) movement, saying 'Until then my generation were still the YBAs at a time when we had no right to be called young.'
