Why Candy Darling might be annoying
He became a 'she.'
She rarely played female roles, with most being as drag queens or transsexuals.
She played very few leading roles.
She claimed to have 'learned about the mysteries of sex' from a children's shoe salesman.
Her leukemia is thought to have been brought on by an overdose of female hormones, which she had received under medical supervision since the early '60s.
She enjoyed impersonating her favorite actresses while growing up (as a boy).
While still living as male, she began dressing in drag and going to gay bars as 'Hope Slattery.'
She was turned down for the lead role in 'Myra Breckinridge,' and said: 'They thought Raquel Welch would make a more believable transvestite.'
Madonna, desperate to prove herself as an actress, will portray her in an upcoming film.
Her name sounds like an offer.
Why Candy Darling might not be annoying
She said: 'You must always be yourself no matter what the price. It is the highest form of morality.'
Andy Warhol was drawn to her because she 'represented Hollywood fantasy, something most of the stars of the '60s didn't want to portray anymore.'
She was raised by a single mother.
Lou Reed penned two songs in tribute to her, 'Candy Says' (with the Velvet Underground) and 'Take a Walk on the Wild Side.'
Her eulogy was read by Julie Newmar.
