    Despite a promising beginning in British TV, her film career never really took off.
    She became better known for her affairs than her movies.
    Her affair with actor Paul Burke, whose wife then attempted suicide, leading to the cancellation of a three-picture deal on the grounds that she had violated the morals clause in the contract.
    Her career was further hampered by drug and alcohol abuse.
    She attempted suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills, then three months later married the psychiatrist taking care of her.
    She was nicknamed 'the Battersea Bardot.'
    She earned critical acclaim in the 'kitchen sink' TV dramas 'Cathy Come Home' and 'Poor Cow.'
    She had a lesbian affair that she called 'an interesting diversion which helped pass the time.'
    Her third husband, Mike Arnold, beat her.
